PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for improving fitting position accuracy of a carriage sensor for sensing passing of a scanning carriage without a cost increase in an image reading apparatus where the carriage sensor is fitted to a main body chassis. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus 1 is provided with the main body chassis 30 on the upper side of which a platen glass 6 is arranged, the scanning carriages 15, 16 which are stored in the main body chassis 30 and read image information of an original P located on the platen glass 6 while moving along the platen glass 6, and the carriage sensor 29 for sensing the passing of the scanning carriages 15, 16, wherein a sensor fitting part 36 for fitting the carriage sensor 29 is formed integrally with the main body chassis 30.
