PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color picture tube enhancing a visibility by shaping an effective surface of a shadow mask to have high curved surface holding strength, thereby decreasing a difference of a thickness of a inner and outer surface of an effective part of a panel. SOLUTION: A color picture tube has a panel 3 having an outer surface of an effective part 1 of a substantially short shape which is almost flat or slightly curved and a shadow mask 9 having a substantially shot-shaped effective surface 6 of a curved surface forming a convex-shape on the side of a fluorescent screed 5t, wherein when 1<RHC/RHA<=3 when a minimum value of a radius of a curvature of a minor axis of the effective surface is RVmin, a maximum value is 1>Rvmin/Rvmax>=0.3, an average radius of a curvature of the major axis direction is RHA and a radius of a curvature of a major axis direction in of the center the effective surface is RHC.
