<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple electrode with metal surface resistant to distortion, comprising a single attachment surface for use together with a piezoelectric actuator. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method of forming an electrode 18 resistant to distortion. The electrode resistant to distortion comprises an upper layer 28, a lower layer 26, and one or more compliant members 30 that provide an electrical connection between the upper layer and the lower layer, and the electrode is used in particular together with an actuator of piezoelectric stack type. By causing the surface of the upper layer and the surface of the lower layer to come into direct contact, it is possible to further provide an electrical path between the upper layer and the lower layer. It is possible for the upper layer to comprise a sheet made of a conductive material folded so as to locate adjacent to the lower layer.
