PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader utilizing the quantity of light in a point light source effectively by maintaining the position relationship between the point light source and a light guide body precisely. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises: an LED (point light source) 22 for emitting light toward the original surface of an original; a substrate 23 for supporting the LED 22; the light guide body 24 for guiding light emitted from the LED 22 to the original surface of the original; and a photoelectric conversion element for reading light reflected on the original surface of the original. In this case, at least one portion of a surface 24a-a of the LED 22 in the light guide body 24 adheres to the substrate 23. An engagement projection 24b projects from a surface at the side of the LED 22 of the light guide body 24, and the engagement projection 24b is engaged with an engagement hole 23a formed on the substrate 23, thus locking the light guide body 24 to the substrate 23 removably.
