A method and an apparatus for processing a job retaining function of an image forming device are provided to allow a user to search printing data stored in the image forming device by using a keyword easily and rapidly. An image forming device(200) includes a storage unit(230), an emulation unit(260) and a kernel unit(250). The storage unit stores printing information including text data corresponding to each printing job. The emulation unit converts printing data received from a host terminal(100) into a printing image and parses the printing data to extract text data. The kernel unit stores printing information corresponding to each printing job in the storage unit when a job retaining function is set, outputs printing information including text data identical or similar to a keyword when the keyword is inputted by a user, and outputs a printing image according to printing information selected by the user.
