DISPLAY PANEL ASSEMBLY AND DISPLAY APPARATUS HAVING THE SAME

A display panel assembly and a display device having the same are provided to enable a liquid crystal portion disposed between a first substrate and a second substrate to be operated in one of a vertical mode, a horizontal mode, and a wide viewing angle mode by a common electrode, pixel electrodes, and a viewing angle controlling unit, thereby controlling selectively a wide viewing angle. A display panel(100) comprises a first substrate(110), a second substrate(120) and a liquid crystal portion(130). The first substrate has pixel electrodes(112). The second substrate is disposed to face the first substrate and has a common electrode(122). The liquid crystal portion has liquid crystal(132) interposed between the first and second substrates and is operated in one of a vertical mode, a horizontal mode, and a wide viewing angle mode. Light is transmitted as it is in the vertical mode. The light is transmitted while the polarizing axis of the light(210,310) is rotated at an angle of 90 degrees. The light is transmitted while the moving path of the light is changed in the wide viewing angle mode.
