PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold clamping apparatus capable of having no trouble on fitting and removing operation of a mold and rapidly and safely performing a mold interchanging operating when a tie bar is pulled out during interchanging the mold. SOLUTION: In the mold clamping apparatus in which a plurality of tie bars are inserted through between a movable platen and a fixed platen, engaging means with the movable platen formed on the end parts on the movable platen side of the tie bars by arranging the movable platen so as to move freely back and forth to the fixed platen along the tie bars are provided on tie bar inserting-through parts of the movable platen, an engaging means with a mold clamping piston formed on the side end parts of the fixed platen of the tie bars is provided on the end part of the mold clamping piston, a pressing means cooperating with the tie bars and furthermore pressing the movable platen after closing the mold to the fixed platen is provided on the tie bar inserting-through parts of the fixed platen, and tie bar drawing-out and inserting means connected with the end parts on the fixed sides of the tie bars are provided on a counter mold fitting face side of the fixed platen, a tie bar reverse drawing-out mold clamping apparatus is characterized in that freely stretchable/contractible tie bar protective covers are provided on the tie bar inserting-through part on the mold fitting face side of the movable platen.
