<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reporting condition setting by which decision on a blank paper output is made in image processing after blank paper is decided when a plurality of documents are successively read to decide the blank paper. <P>SOLUTION: A document is set on an original table, and a read face is set as one side, other read conditions etc., are set, and a picture for condition setting confirmation is displayed before operation. When the condition setting is accepted, an OK button is depressed and the document is conveyed to a scanner. Even if the read face is specified as one side, a WIU 3 reads both the top and reverse sides of only a starting page and executes blank paper detection algorithm. Only image data of one side are stored in an MEM 6. A process controller 1 is informed that a blank paper document is decided in such a case. Only when it is decided that the top side is not blank and the reverse side is blank, processing is performed as specified.
