<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has excellent color reproducibility in a wide viewing field angle and does not cause color shift even when obliquely observed upon black display. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal cell LC comprises three picture element regions, color filters having wavelength selectivity in transmittance are arranged on the three picture element regions, and when dominant wavelengths exhibiting maximum transmittance of the color filters disposed on the respective picture element regions are denoted by λ<SB>1</SB>, λ<SB>2</SB>and λ<SB>3</SB>(unit: nm) in order from small one, thicknesses of the liquid crystal layers in the respective picture element regions are denoted by d<SB>1</SB>, d<SB>2</SB>and d<SB>3</SB>(unit: nm) in the order, and refractive index anisotropy of the liquid crystal layer on wavelength λ(unit: nm) is denoted by Δn(λ), the liquid crystal display device satisfies the following expression (1-1) or (1-2). The expression (1-1): Δn(λ<SB>1</SB>)×d<SB>1</SB>> Δn(λ<SB>2</SB>)×d<SB>2</SB>, the expression (1-2): Δn(λ<SB>2</SB>)×d<SB>2</SB>> Δn(λ<SB>3</SB>)×d<SB>3</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
