A method of controlling a vehicle air conditioner is provided to minimize a time to give off an offensive odor in the state in which a cooling mode is inactive. A method of controlling a vehicle air conditioner comprises the step of determining whether or not an air conditioner switch is turned off in an ON state, the step of determining whether or not a face vent mode is maintained when it is determined that the conditioner switch is turned off, the step of converting the face vent mode to a bi-level mode when it is determined that the face vent mode is maintained, the step of determining whether an outside-air mode or an inside-air mode is maintained after the step of converting the face vent mode to the bi-level mode, and converting the inside-air mode to the outside-air mode only in the case of the inside-air mode, and returning to an original mode when a gradient of outlet-side air temperature change detected by a temperature sensor is zero, after the step of converting the inside-air mode to the outside-air mode.
