An adhesive composition suitable for laminating steel electrolytically coated with zinc to a vinyl chloride resin film comprises: (A) a rubbery terpolymer of 40-80 per cent butadiene, 10-50 per cent acrylonitrile, and 2-25 per cent of a mono carboxylic monoethylenically unsaturated acid having from 3-5 carbon atoms; and (B) a resinous terpolymer of 5-20 per cent of vinyl acetate, 80-95 per cent vinyl chloride, and 0.5 to 5.0 per cent of an alpha, beta-olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid, the proportion of (A) and (B) being 10-50 parts (A) and correspondingly 90-50 parts (B) per 100 parts of (A) and (B). The adhesive may contain solvents such as methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, toluene, or carbon disulphide; and also mercapto benzothiazole, tricresyl phosphate, dioctyl phthalate or sulphur. The vinyl film may be polyvinyl chloride, or vinyl chloride which has been polymerized with vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate or diethyl maleate; or polyvinyl chloride compounded with acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer, or styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer. Plasticizers such as butyl decyl phthalate, dioctyl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate, trioctyl phosphate, dioctyl adipate, dioctyl azelate, dioctyl sebacate and epoxidized plasticizers, stearic acid, synthetic waxes, calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, clay, or dibasic lead stearate, may be added. 2-10 Per cent of a phenol-formaldehyde resin modified by from 2 to 10 per cent of cashew nut oil, may also be added. |
