<p>A system and a method for installing an OS(Operating System) in a diskless computing platform are provided to install the OS to a diskless computing client including an iSCSI(Internet Small Computer System Interface) initiator accessing resources provided from an iSCSI target, which is included in a server computing device. A server computing device(140) includes a storage subsystem(142), a processing unit(143) and the iSCSI target(152). The iSCSI target receives a login command from a diskless computing device(110) and provides portions of a boot or installation image by determining whether a signature value is the known signature value. The login command includes the signature value representing hardware configuration of the diskless computing device. A firmware(120) includes, without limitation, a boot loader(125), INT 13 services(124), an NIC driver(121), a signature generator(123) and an iSCSI initiator(122). The NIC driver configures and manages an NIC(111). The boot loader is a single module of code, or a sequence of modules of code, used to load an operating system loader from a block storage device such as a hard disk, as part of the boot process. An INT 13 services(124) provide basic access to the block storage, allowing the diskless computing device to load and execute operating system-specific loader code tailored to the specific requirements of loading a particular operating system.</p> |
