A method for controlling a wide display part and a mobile terminal using the same are provided to increase the utilization of a wide display part and offer a convenient user interface by displaying data and user extrinsic information respectively on the normal region and extended region of the wide display part. A control part in a mobile terminal having a wide display part segments the screen of the wide display part into a normal region and an extended region at a proper ratio stored in a storage part. The control part displays data on the normal region. Also the control part displays user extrinsic information on the extended region(S301). Then the control part judges whether a signal to select the user extrinsic information is inputted through an input part(S305). If the selection signal is inputted, the control part displays the detailed contents of the selected user extrinsic information on the normal region(S307).
