PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent or suppress operation delay of a spool valve switching a discharge volume of gas, in a variable displacement gas compressor. SOLUTION: The variable displacement gas compressor comprises: a compressor main body 12 compressing refrigerant gas G, which is sucked from a low-pressure space such as a suction chamber, in a compression chamber 22; bypass passages 41, 42, 43 connecting the compression chamber 22 corresponding to a compression stroke with the suction chamber 24 (low-pressure space); and the spool valve 47 axially displaced in a valve case 48 depending on difference in pressure acting on both end faces 47a, 47b so as to switch states between a state allowing the passage of gas between the bypass passages 41, 42 and a state blocking the passage, so that the discharge amount of the refrigerant gas G can be changed. At least one of an end face 47b on a right end side of the spool valve 47, which is a side abutted to a bottom face 48a of the valve case 48, and the bottom face 48a of the valve case 48 prevents or suppresses close contact between both faces 47b, 48a.
