PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obviate the degradation in display quality by suppressing abnormal light emission at the time of power source on. SOLUTION: The plasma display device constitutes one field period by arranging a plurality of sub-fields having an initialization period to generate initialization discharge in a plurality of discharge cells, a writing period to perform a writing operation with the selected discharge cell among the plurality of the discharge cells, and a sustain period to generate sustain discharge in the selected cell by the writing operation and performs driving, in which an off detecting means to detect the off operation of the power source is included, and the driving is ended after at least one or more times of the initialization period is ended after the power source off operation is detected.
