PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method which can prevent the service life of a capacitor from degrading.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with; a capacitor 232, a processing means for carrying out a process regarding an image process; a discharging circuit 234 discharging charged power to the capacitor 232 and supplying the power to the processing means; a status monitoring means 244 for monitoring whether the processing means is enabled after the discharging by the discharging means 234 and whether the processing means is in a standby state to enable processing after the power is supplied by the discharging circuit 234; a charging/discharging control circuit 236 permitting charging to the capacitor 232 in the standby state; and a charger 230 for charging the capacitor 232 when the charging to the capacitor 232 is permitted.
