The load-tower-chiller (LOTOCH) cooling scheme is a chilled water generation system which consists of a cooling tower (CT), a chiller (CH), pumps (TP, LP), interconnecting piping and a control system. The tower (CT) works as a primary source of cooling to its maximum capability after which the chiller (CH) intervenes as a secondary source of cooling to achieve the desired cold water temperature that the chiller (CH) solely can not achieve it due the ambient condition. LOTOCH components are arranged in a manner such that the chiller system alternates between two operational configurations to suit the incurring ambient condition; one is similar to a classical chilled water system while the other is a new arrangement in which cooling is attained solely by the tower (CT) or assisted by the chiller (CH). In principle, LOTOCH maximizes the utilization of cooling from the tower (CT), thus, reduces the required chiller size and also its operating hours. LOTOCH applications include combustion turbine inlet air cooling system, district cooling, fresh air cooling and ventilation applications.
|
