The forces arising from the reciprocating needle bar 15 and connecting rod 35 driven from the crankpin 33 of a sewing machine are balanced by a counterweight extension 45 of the connecting rod and a counterweight 30 secured to the crankshaft. The counterweight 30 is arranged on one side of the connecting rod whilst a balanced rotary thread take-up member 41 is arranged on the crankpin on the other side. A cover plate 42 is provided for the head 11 and a take-up guard device 43 is secured to this plate. |
