PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter for a heat engine for reducing cost, by lengthening the useful life, by simultaneously satisfying the damping function for absorbing a shock, the aligning function and the function for holding a permanent magnet. SOLUTION: This starter for the head engine can be equipped in a transport vehicle, and has an electric motor having a field winding having the permanent magnet, a reduction gear 4 connected to the electric motor and the heat engine and a mounting support 2 for installing the electric motor and the reduction gear 4. The reduction gear 4 has a ring 46, at least one damping element for limiting angular motion generated by torsional motion between the reduction gear 4 and the mounting support 2, and at least one aligning element for facilitating assembling of the reduction gear 4 and the mounting support 2. At least the one damping element and at least the one aligning element are composed of a single elastic metallic piece 7'.
