METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEARCHING FREQUENCY BURST TO OBTAIN SYNCHRONIZATION IN A MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method and an apparatus for searching frequency burst to obtain synchronization in a mobile communication system are provided to reduce actual execution time of searching FB(Frequency Burst) and to reduce timing error. According to a method for a terminal to search frequency burst in a mobile communication system, a ratio of output energy to filter input energy of one block unit with first size predetermined for a signal received from a base station is compared with a predetermined threshold value. If the energy ratio exceeds the threshold value according to the comparison result, a ratio of output energy to filter input energy of one block unit with second size is calculated. Section unit energy ratios are calculated by collecting energy ratio of one block unit with the second size. A maximum value among the section unit energy ratios is found by comparing the section unit energy ratios. The position of the FB(Frequency Burst) is judged according to the section of the energy ratio with a maximum value.
