PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointer type instrument capable of indicating '0' on a display board by a pointer even if a gear has backlash. SOLUTION: This instrument is equipped with pointer reference position setting means 7a, 7b for determining a reference position of the pointer 2. A control means 6 rotates the pointer 2 in the reference position direction when inputting a power source into a stepping motor 6, executes the first driving processing for stopping rotation of the pointer 2 following input of a pointer reference position arrival signal from the pointer reference position setting means 7a, then executes the second driving processing for operating the pointer 2 in the reverse direction to the reference position direction as much as the first angle portion from the reference position, and thereafter executes the third driving processing for operating a gear 3S on the stepping motor 2 side of a deceleration mechanism 3 as much as the second angle portion.
