<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication apparatus which can acquire good communication characteristics with respect to any radio communication medium. <P>SOLUTION: When a contactless IC card enters a communication available area, information inherent to the contactless IC card (ID information) is acquired from the IC card. Subject to the occurrence of a communication unavailable state, the type of the contactless IC card is determined based on the inherent information of the contactless IC card.
