HALFTONING METHOD AND APPARATUS TO IMPROVE SHARPNESS IN BOUNDARY REGION

A halftoning method for improving the sharpness of a boundary region and an apparatus thereof are provided to discriminate a region displayed as the boundary region and a region displayed as a non-boundary region in image data and to perform the halftoning of the discriminated regions by using inter-different halftone tables. A boundary direction detecting unit(200) detects a direction in which a shape of a boundary region is indicated. A halftoning table selecting unit(300) selects a halftone table displayed in the most similar direction with a direction vertical to the detected direction among previously composed halftone tables. A halftoning processing unit(600) performs the halftoning of pixel data by using the selected halftone table and displays the halftoning result.
