An antenna arrangement 2 suitable for ultra-wideband operation comprises one or more active radio frequency (RF) emitting elements 4 and a reflector 8, where the reflector has an outer surface 10 which reflects a first radio frequency band and an inner surface 12 which reflects a second radio frequency band. The reflector 8 may be positioned between active RF emitting elements 4a-4c when there is a plurality of such elements. The outer and inner surfaces 10, 12 of the reflector 8 may further be transparent to RF signals outside of the first and second RF bands, respectively. The, or each, antenna element 4a-4c, may be a monopole element. The distance between the active element 4 and the reflector surfaces may be one quarter of the central frequency of the frequency range reflected by that surface. A further inner reflective surface may be provided to reflect a third frequency range or all the frequencies in an ultra-wideband. The antenna arrangement may be directional or omnidirectional and used in high-speed digital wireless communication in the home or office environment within a 20 metre range. |
