PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber having a stable damping force property even if the temperature of an operating fluid is changed. SOLUTION: The shock absorber 100 comprises a cylinder 1 filled with the operating fluid, a piston 2 slidably arranged in the cylinder 1 for partitioning the cylinder 1 into two fluid chambers 3, 4, a flow path 6 formed in the piston 2 for the operating fluid made to pass therethrough by the sliding motion of the piston 2 while imparting resistance to the operating fluid, and a rod 5 to one end of which the piston 2 is fixed. A variable valve 20 is provided in series to the flow path 6 for compensating for a change in damping force resulting from a viscosity change of the operating fluid caused by a temperature change.
