An apparatus and a method for recording and reproducing data are provided to generate metadata for management information of image files, thereby managing the image files easily. A signal process unit(110) photographs an image, generates image data from the photographed image, and creates an image file comprising the image data. A voice recognition unit(120) recognizes voice to convert the voice into text data. A control unit(130) generates metadata from the text data, and adds the metadata to the image file to generate another image data comprising the metadata. A storage unit(140) stores the generated image file. Generating the metadata, the control unit creates the text image data as a description tag, extracts keywords from the text data and then creates the extracted keywords as keyword tag.
