PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which controls the display of an automatic focus frame, based on the result of the recognition of a subject by a simple key operation or a recognition process, and also to provide a focus control method and a focus control program. SOLUTION: In response to the depression of a SET button in an AF frame display alteration mode during a photographing standby period, an AF frame 44-1 displayed on a screen switches to an AF frame 44-2 taken out from a frame pattern memory. Each time the SET button is depressed, AF frame switches such that AF frames 44-3 to 44-5 are displayed on a subject 40 one after another.
