PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting abnormality of an injection molding machine which can judge its abnormality when a resin filling pressure becomes abnormally high and can prevent a mold from being damaged. SOLUTION: The injection molding machine includes a tie bar sensor 18 for detecting a mold clamping force to monitor the detected value of the mold clamping force by the tie bar sensor 18. When the detected value of the mold clamping force is at a specified threshold value or higher, the resin filling pressure is judged to be abnormal. It is preferable to monitor the detected value of the mold clamping force from starting of filling the resin to completing dwelling. It is also possible to set the specified threshold value at a value larger than the maximum value of the detected value of the mold clamping force at the time of normal operation, or at a value larger than the set value of the mold clamping force by a specified value.
