An optical recording and reproducing apparatus and a method for removing contamination of the same are provided to remove the contaminants attached on the SIL(solid immersion lens) by applying a driving signal to an actuator. An actuator(120) having an SIL(solid immersion lens) is moved to a wiper(200). The SIL and the wiper make contact to generate friction by applying a driving signal to the actuator, where the driving signal is a current applied to at least one of a focusing coil, a tracking coil, and a tilting coil. The actuator contains a lens holder having the SIL and an objective lens, and a magnetic circuit. A pick up base(179) supports the actuator, and moves on shafts(176). A microprocessor controls the pick up base to move the SIL to the position of the wiper, and operates the actuator to contact the SIL with the wiper. The wiper is fixed to a shaft holder(173) supporting the shaft.
