The invention relates to a copolymer comprising monomer units carrying ca rboxyl groups, particularly for the production of articles of daily use, whe rein the carboxyl groups are present along a carbon chain of the copolymer a nd are each at least partially linked to a side group of a monomer unit adja cent within the carbon chain while forming intramolecular anhydride structur es. The invention also relates to a method for producing copolymers and the use of the method in the production of articles of daily use.
