PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance display with high luminance and a wide color reproduction area. SOLUTION: An image display device comprises a rear plate having a plurality of electron emission elements, a faceplate comprising a plurality of pixels with a monochrome phosphor to which electrons emitted from the plurality of electron emission elements are irradiated arranged and being disposed facing the plurality of electron emission elements, and a drive circuit driven by scanning the plurality of electron emission elements for emitting electrons from the plurality of electron emission elements, with which luminance tuning is performed by changing the amount of charge supplied to the pixels, wherein the drive circuit comprises a circuit to drive the plurality of electron emission elements so that the maximum charge density of irradiation to the pixels of the faceplate becomes 3×10<SP>-8</SP>C/cm<SP>2</SP>or more per one scan and the phosphor is a phosphor to which an allowed-transition-type material is added as a light emission center.
