<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight apparatus suppressing intrusion of foreign matter between optical sheets or the optical sheet and a light guide plate, regardless of variation in spacing between a presser foot of a frame and the optical sheet. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight apparatus is provided with a light guiding plate 14 guiding light from a light source; a plurality of types of the optical sheets 13 laminated on a front surface side of the light guiding plate 14; and a frame 12 defining a position in the in-plane direction of the light gurding plate 14 and the optical sheets 13, and having the presser foot 21 projecting on a periphery edge part on the front surface of the optical sheets 13. The presser foot 21 is formed from resin material and is provided with a fin 25 formed of the resin material cut approximately in letter U shape.
