A color conversion type light emitting diode excellent in luminous characteristics; specifically, a first light emitting diode which is a light emitting diode comprising an LED chip having a luminous layer consisting of a nitride compound semiconductor, and a translucent resin containing a fluorescent substance that absorbs at least part of light from the LED chip to emit a different-wavelength light, wherein the fluorescent substance contains a small-particle-size fluorescent substance and a large-particle-size fluorescent substance, the large-particle-size fluorescent substance is distributed in the vicinity of the LED chip to form a color conversion layer in the translucent resin, and the small-particle-size fluorescent substance is distributed on the outer side of the color conversion layer in the translucent resin.
