Performance-enhanced and irritation-reduced agents for the lightening and/or dyeing of keratin fibres, in particular human hair, comprise - based on their weight - 0.001 to 15% by weight of at least one ester and/or anhydride of the formula (I): in which X, Y, Z, independently of one another, are a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom and R is an optionally substituted aryl group or an optionally substituted (C₁-C₆)-alkyl group or a hydroxyalkyl group or a polyhydroxyalkyl group or an optionally substituted (C₁-C₆)-alkylene group, or a (C₁-C₆)-acyl radical. Moreover, 0.001 to 5% by weight of one or more oxidation dye precursors and/or direct dyes are preferably present.
