PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alarm and alarm system adding crime prevention alarm function at a low cost using an alarm other than a crime prevention alarm. SOLUTION: When a determining means 17 determines that detection voltage exceeds a threshold at external output terminals 16a and 16b when power is on, an alarm sound selecting method 22 selects a second alarm sound signal (fire-linked alarm sound). When it is determined that detection voltage of the threshold or lower appears at the external output terminals, an automatic setting means 18 performs initial setting so as to select a third alarm sound signal (crime prevention alarm sound). During subsequent usual monitoring, when the determining means 17 determines that there is a detection signal of a sensor 14 for alarm event detection, a sound outputting means 25 outputs a first alarm signal (fire alarm sound). When it is determined that detection voltage of the threshold or lower appears at the external output terminals, the second or third alarm signal initially set by the automatic setting means 18 is outputted.
