PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tripentyl citrate, a method for producing the compound, and use of the compound as a plasticizer for plastics. SOLUTION: The tripentyl citrate is represented by formula I (wherein, groups R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a 5C alkyl group; and group R<SP>4</SP>is H or a carboxylic acid). The plasticizer has good processing characteristics and good plasticizing activities, and also has low volatility. The alcohol to be a raw material therefor can easily be mass-produced.
