PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device and its control method of carrying out dynamic load balancing or performance extension as a whole by balancing a load on a logic volume. SOLUTION: Contents of a volume with a load exceeding a default volume are copied to an auxiliary volume on the basis of a measurement result of a load state of the volume. The original volume and the copied auxiliary volume are provided to a host device in association with one virtual volume. When a write request is provided with read processing for data with respect to the virtual volume from the host device, the data is written in all volumes and auxiliary volumes associated with the virtual volume. When a read request with respect to the virtual volume is provided, corresponding data is read out from volumes and auxiliary volumes other than default volumes and auxiliary volumes.
