PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically register a figure image for each user whose personal information has been registered in the telephone directory of a portable telephone. SOLUTION: When a conversation is made with video telephones, a control unit searches the telephone directory on the basis of the telephone number of the partner of the telephone conversation, and discriminates whether the figure image of the telephone conversation partner has been registered. When no figure image of the telephone conversation partner has been registered, the control unit fetches a figure image, received from the portable telephone of the telephone conversation partner. In this case, the control unit fetches the image of that person, selecting a superior timing, when the figure image reception becomes stabilized, such as after the lapse of 10 seconds for example from the starting time of the conversation. Then, the control unit automatically registers the fetched figure image, as a figure image of the telephone conversation partner in a memory.
