The method involves determining a derivation for an LED or a group of limited number of LEDs that are arranged in series to constitute a light source e.g. incandescent lamp, and detecting the malfunctioning of the LEDs by a photosensitive element e.g. photosensitive diode (60). A defective LED or the group of LEDs comprising the defective LED are short-circuited by bias of the associated derivation using a transistor (T2) whose collector and emitter are connected to upstream and downstream of the LEDs, respectively.
