PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve automating according to glare degrees which a user actually receives relating to luminance adjustment of a display device. SOLUTION: The display apparatus comprises a pupil measuring section 5 which measures a user's pupil diameter, a display element 1 which displays an image and character, a display control unit 2 which controls the display screen of the display element 1, and a luminance control unit 4 which adjusts the luminance of the display element based on the information on the pupil diameter outputted by the pupil measuring section. The user's pupil is automatically measured and the display element is automatically adjusted to the luminance appropriate as the display element by the pupil information and therefore, the display can be performed at the readily visible luminance suitable for the user's way of feeling the glare.
