PHOSPHOR AND LIGHT-EMITTING DEVICE

Disclosed is a phosphor having high luminance and chromaticity y equal to that of BAM:Eu, which hardly suffers from decrease in luminance during operation of a light-emitting device. Specifically disclosed is a phosphor represented by the following general formula: aAO bEuO DO cSiO<SUB>2</SUB> (wherein A represents at least one selected from Ca, Sr and Ba, D represents at least one selected from Mg and Zn, 2.970 = a = 3.500, 0.001 = b = 0.030, and 1.900 = c = 2.100). This phosphor is characterized in that the peak intensity at 1490 cm<SUP>-1</SUP> is 0.02-0.8 when the peak intensity at 565 cm<SUP>-1</SUP> is taken as 1 in the spectrum obtained by photoacoustic spectroscopy.
