Method for refining molten glass under reduced pressure comprises feeding it from a feeder tank through a riser pipe (7) into a refining chamber (30), from which it falls through an outlet pipe (15) into a second tank, all of which can be lowered below the feeder tank. A partition (14) runs along the tube between the riser pipe and outlet. A layer of melt and foam (13) flows above the partition while only melt flows under it. Only the melt under the partition flows down the outlet pipe. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out the method.
