The method involves interval-moderately aerating a fan (3) with a gas mixture, which is tested, by using a sensor (2). Changes of resistance in the levels of the sensor are used for evaluating the gas. The measuring gas is obligatorily supplied to the sensor by the fan. Electrical resistances of the sensor are measured during on and off modes in two levels of the sensor, and are used for overall information of the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of a gas composition. An independent claim is also included for a device for selectively detecting gas from gas mixtures.
