DATA STORAGE SYSTEM, FILE RETRIEVAL DEVICE, AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use storage devices allocated to respective nodes, which are connected mutually in a grid form, as a single data storage system. SOLUTION: This data storage system manages files held in a plurality of nodes each having a storage device by using a common index to function them as a single database. Nodes 20 constituting a grid array 10 are divided into file storage nodes for actually storing files and index nodes for storing index information of the file storage nodes. Index data are managed by using a tree structure. The file storage nodes correspond to leaves of the tree structure, while the index nodes correspond to roots or nodes of the tree structure. Address information of the file storage node is stored in the index node uniquely decided based on file specification information for specifying a file held in the file storage node.
