Guide device, particularly for use in welding

Guide device for use in the welding of curved surfaces, in particular pipe surfaces. The guide comprises a flexible elongate body (3) with a tensioning means (4) for tensioning the body around the curved surface. The body is provided with spacers (7) that hold it out from the curved surface. Indicator means (8, 8') are spaced along the body in a predetermined pattern such that the position of a welding system on the body can be inferred on the basis of the detection of the indicators.
