<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of stabilizing the density of a high density image by devising the shape of a test patch. <P>SOLUTION: A test pattern image composed of a plurality of pieces of test patch data different in line area ratio is formed. The amount of toner stuck to the test pattern image is detected to calculate a toner sticking amount when the line area ratio is 100%. A process condition is controlled so that the calculated toner sticking amount becomes a predetermined value.
