PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method in which roughness can be adjusted to a desired level without changing the tinting of the whole, an image forming apparatus, a proof generating method, a proof generating device, and an image forming program.

SOLUTION: When an image is formed based upon binary bit map data, the image forming method changes image formation conditions of respective dots with predetermined probability to form variation points of high density and variation points of low density so that the relation between the number X of variation points of high density and the number Y of variation points of low density satisfies 0.9≤Y/X≤1.1.
