PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor capable of suppressing a deterioration in filter effect without delaying a sensor response time, and to provide a method of regenerating a filter for the gas sensor. SOLUTION: The gas sensor includes an element 2 for detecting a predetermined gas to be detected in a gas to be detected, a filter 3 for protecting the poisoning of the element 2 caused by a general gas by adsorbing the general gas other than the gas to be detected by the element 2 and a heater (heating means 7) for desorbing the general gas adsorbed on the filter 3 by heating the filter 3.
