PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix display which is highly reliable, even when a glass substrate is used as an element forming substrate, and which is highly flexible as a whole. SOLUTION: The active matrix display is equipped with a plastics substrate; a thin glass layer disposed on the plastics substrate via an adhesive layer, and having a compression stress application layer, arranged on the surface opposite to the plastics substrate; active elements arranged on the thin glass layer for respective pixels; a display section, arranged on the thin glass layer, driven with the active elements and displaying for the respective pixels; and a counter substrate arranged on the display section, and such that the coefficients of linear expansion of the compressive stress application layer is larger than that of the thin glass layer.
