PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display medium capable of obtaining an electrophoretic display which permits a stable display over a long period. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic display medium used in an electrophoretic display device includes one or more set of colored particles in a dielectric fluid, wherein at least one of the one or more sets of particles comprise particles having polyelectrolyte coating on the surface thereof. At least the one polyelectrolyte coating of the medium can be composed of a plurality of polyelectrolyte coatings made of layers, for example, formed by alternately arranging a cation polyelectrolyte coating and an anion polyelectrolyte coating.
